The love story of these two wasn't the easiest. Discord has always had an uncertain feelings for Twilight, but he showed it not in the best way. He was like a schoolboy who picks on his crush. It was not until the defeat of Tirek that Twilight started to see Discord not just as someone annoying and unredimable, but someone she could actually call her friend, someone who had much deeper personality than she thought. She slowly started to develop a feelings for him. Discord helped Spike when his grow spurts suddenly started and this allowed him to spend more time with lavender alicorn. He also helped her with her research on draconequuses. Neither one of them wanted to admit the adoration they felt for one another. It was very tormenting period for both of them. Discord didn't really care what society might think, but he was afraid she wouldn't return his love. At the same time Twilight thought that he'd just laugh at her feelings. Besides, the very thought of loving such a chaotic, annoying, loud... smart, funny, charismatic creature wasn't acceptable for her. She tried to distract herself by dating Flash Centry, the royal guard she met at the Crystal Empire, but she felt only a slight crush on him. Discord wasn't happy to hear the news. Every time he and the orange pegasus met it was a disaster. One day the argument was so fiery that they started to fight. Outraged Discord can be very scary, but Flash Centry couldn't just give up without trying. In the result Discord torn Flash's ear with his teeth. At this moment Twilight walked in and then managed to stop the fight. 

- Seriously, what's the problem with you two?! You nearly ruined half of my library!
- Sparks... I'm sorry. I-I don't know what came into me, - orange pegasus gave her a very pitiful look. Then he glared back at Discord and his eyes were no longer filled with warmth. No. It was a pure hate. Discord, though, felt the same.
Twilight tried to calm herself with a deep shaky inhale. 
- Get out. Both. I need some time to think.
They didn't try to argue with that and quickly walked towards the exit. Twilight was about to close the door behind them, but then noticed Flash's ear.
- Flashlight, wait!
He stopped as he heard his nickname.
- Do you need a help with your wound?
Discord grimaced at the genuine concern in her voice. He didn't waste a time to teleport away from here.
- Aw, thanks, Sparks, but no. I'll be fine, - he smiled as gently as only he could, - After all, I'm a royal guard, I've been to worse.
Twilight gave him a very serious look. She still was uncertain, but at the same time she understood that Flash was right. He's a tough guy, he'll manage. With a heavy heart she let him go.

This night she was sitting in her room thinking. Spike who came back from night date with Sweetie Belle was shoked to see the library in such state. He quickly ran to Twilight to make sure she was ok and to ask what happenned. She didn't want to talk about it at first, but her friend was insisting, so she gave up and spieled the beans. She didn't notice how she jumped from the fight to her feelings to Discord. She talked and talked untill she sayed everything she had in mind. And with that she finally realised how deep in love she was. The thought of breaking up with Flash, her sweet and caring Flash, broke her heart. But he wasn't the one she truly loved, he was more of a very dear friend to her. So the next morning they parted their ways, but were able to keep their friendship.
Discord at the same time had a talk with Fluttershy. He  told her about his love for Twilight, though it wasn't a surprise for 'Shy. She hated to see her best friends struggling so much, so she encouraged Discord to admit his feeling to Twi.
Next week draconequus and lavender alicorn had a talk. They finally told each other everything they felt for one another. The rest is a history.
